CBP reminded ACE Portal owners how to reactivate user access

CBP title: REMINDER – ACE Portal Account Owners Can Reactivate Account Users

This message is from May 1, 2026. Later CSMS messages may have changed it. See the latest trade news

What did CBP announce?

CBP reminded Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Portal Trade Account Owners that they can reactivate Proxy Trade Account Owners and Trade Account Users themselves. The message listed the steps: log in as the account owner, use the Tools tab, select the user, and click Reactivate. It pointed to a CBP reference guide for more detail.

What is Allied's position?

This message describes a standard ACE Portal feature rather than a new rule, so it likely still applies today. It concerns account administration, not entry filing, so it does not change how we file entries for clients. Clients who manage their own ACE Portal accounts can follow these steps directly; others do not need to act.

General information, not legal advice.

What does the CBP message say?

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reminds Automated Commercial Environment Secure Data Portal (ACE Portal) Trade Account Owners (TAO) that TAOs can self-manage access for Proxy Trade Account Owners (PTAO) and Trade Account Users (TAU), including access reactivation. Below is an overview of the steps for reactivating account users:

  • Log in to the ACE Portal as the TAO
  • Select the “Tools” tab
  • Select the hyperlinked name of the applicable PTAO/TAU user
  • Click the “Reactivate” button

TIP: After reactivating a user, direct the user to log in to the ACE Portal to confirm access.

For more detailed step-by-step instructions on reactivating PTAO and TAU accounts, review Topic 4: Reactivate and Revoke a User in the ACE Portal User Management reference guide (https://www.cbp.gov/document/guidance/ace-portal-user-management).
