Cargo Release
Cargo release is the entry data that a filer sends to CBP to get imported goods released. It is the electronic equivalent of CBP Form 3461.
What does Cargo Release mean?
To secure the release of goods, the filer submits the entry on CBP Form 3461 or its electronic equivalent. The filer also needs evidence of the right to make entry and a bond (19 CFR 142.3, 142.4).
In ACE, the Form 3461 data goes to CBP in electronic data sets, called ACE Cargo Release. ACE can decide admissibility and disposition automatically when it receives the data.
Release does not end the entry. Unless the entry summary came with the entry, the filer files it with estimated duties within 10 working days (19 CFR 142.12).
Goods that a partner government agency regulates also need that agency's data. The filer sends it through ACE with the cargo release data.
What does it mean for your shipment?
Send complete invoices and party data before the goods arrive. Missing data delays the release, and storage charges continue while the goods wait.
