Entry Summary (CBP Form 7501)
The entry summary, CBP Form 7501, reports the classification, value, origin, duties and fees of a formal entry. The estimated duties are deposited with it.
What does Entry Summary (CBP Form 7501) mean?
A formal consumption entry uses CBP Form 7501, or its electronic equivalent, as the entry summary (19 CFR 142.11). Each line shows the full 10-digit HTS number, the value, the duty rate and the fees.
The filer can file the summary at the time of entry. Otherwise, it files the summary with estimated duties within 10 working days after entry (19 CFR 142.12). The entry number has 11 characters: the filer code, a seven-digit number and a check digit.
Before liquidation, a post-summary correction can change most of the data. After liquidation, the options are a protest or a prior disclosure.
What does it mean for your shipment?
Read the entry summary that your broker sends you. Check the HTS numbers, the country of origin, the value and the importer of record, because you are liable for them.
