Ultimate Consignee
The ultimate consignee is the U.S. party that buys the imported goods or, for a consigned shipment, receives them.
What does Ultimate Consignee mean?
Block 29 of the entry summary names the ultimate consignee: the person or firm that buys the goods, or to whom a consigned shipment goes. If the ultimate consignee is the importer of record, the block stays blank.
If those parties are not known, the filer reports to whose premises the goods go. The block also shows the state of destination.
The ultimate consignee can differ from the importer of record. For example, a licensed broker can act as importer of record while its client receives the goods as ultimate consignee.
CBP also needs a CBP Form 5106 for the ultimate consignee of a formal entry (19 CFR 24.5). The form gives CBP the name, address and identification number of the party.
What does it mean for your shipment?
Tell us who buys the goods and where they go, even when another party is the importer of record. For some detained mail parcels, Allied acts as importer of record and the addressee is the ultimate consignee.
