Temporary Import Bonds

Duty-free temporary imports for exhibitions, samples, and testing.

Temporary Import Bonds (TIBs) allow goods to enter the United States duty-free for a specific purpose and limited period—typically up to one year, with extensions available up to three years. The goods must be exported or destroyed after the temporary period. TIB entries are ideal for trade shows, exhibitions, product testing, and professional equipment.

Qualifying Uses

TIBs cover a wide range of temporary purposes: trade show exhibits, product samples for soliciting orders, goods for testing or experimentation, professional equipment and tools, and articles for repair or alteration. The bond amount is typically double the estimated duties that would otherwise be owed.

Export & Cancellation

When the temporary period ends, the goods must be exported and proof of export filed with CBP to cancel the bond. Failure to timely export and document the re-exportation results in liquidated damages—payment of the full bond amount (double duties). We track your TIB expiration dates and manage the export documentation.
