CBP explained the 10 percent Section 122 import surcharge that applied earlier in 2026
CBP issued guidance on the February 20, 2026 proclamation that added a temporary 10 percent duty on imports from all countries under Section 122, effective February 24, 2026 through July 24, 2026. The message listed exemptions, including certain agricultural products, civil aircraft parts, USMCA-qualifying Canadian and Mexican goods, CAFTA-DR textiles, donations and informational materials. It also covered Chapter 98 treatment, foreign trade zone admission, drawback eligibility, and the required order for reporting HTS numbers on entry summaries.

This surcharge applied to entries Allied filed between February 24 and July 24, 2026, and is no longer in effect. Clients with entries from that window who believe an exemption applied, or who have questions about how it was applied to their goods, should ask us to review those specific entries. We do not need any action from clients now, since the surcharge period has ended.
The summaries and positions are general information, not legal advice. Always check the official CBP message, which each page links to.
