Entry Type 01
Entry type 01 is CBP's code for a formal consumption entry of goods that are free of duty or dutiable.
What does Entry Type 01 mean?
The first digit of an entry type code shows the category: 0 for consumption, 1 for informal and 2 for warehouse. Type 01 is the consumption entry for free and dutiable goods. Other consumption types cover special cases, for example 02 for quota goods, 03 for AD/CVD goods and 06 for foreign trade zone goods.
A type 01 entry needs a bond, cargo release data and an entry summary with estimated duties (19 CFR 142.4, 142.12). It pays the merchandise processing fee unless an exemption applies (19 CFR 24.23).
Shipments over $2,500 generally need a formal entry (19 CFR 143.21). A CBP Form 3509 that requires a formal entry for a mail parcel asks for this entry type.
What does it mean for your shipment?
We file type 01 entries for ocean, air and mail shipments. For your first entry, we also need a power of attorney and your CBP Form 5106 data.
